Blog Genesis

Here I go! My first blog post!

I am starting with the reason(s) behind creating a blog:

  1. Changing Career Focus
  2. Pandemic Epiphany?
  3. Aha! Effect
  4. The Low Price of Your Ego
  5. Polluted Profiles and Feeds
  6. Fun

1. Changing Career Focus

Well, to put it simple, my area of professional interest changed. Nothing drastic like from IT to brewery, but different enough for me to start to bug my head.

I started appreciating a lot more the things around network automation, backend stuff, and even software development. Yes, still quite wide! And, when a good chunk of your experience is around networking-firewalling, trust me! It feels like another universe.

Anyway, how is this related to blogging?

wow, blogging!

The more I “investigated” those other areas, I must confess, I got surprised by how often people have their own blogs. And, I found it fascinating.

Finally, it is not that having a blog is a must for a career change, but hey! Given a proper approach, it might be a plus to be more noticeable among the crowd.

2. Pandemic Epiphany?

You know, I went through one of those introspective days( maybe a 30’s stuff, “pandemic epiphany”, or both). And, I got some realizations, being one those: to share my opinion publicly about topics I work with.

Discussing about IT industry, whether is work, non-work related, technical or non-technical, is something I enjoy. And, if by posting here, I can get a fraction of your attention and have a nice discussion, then it is worth doing for me.

3. Aha! Effect

Troubleshooting, writing documentation, or delivering training, exposes me to “Aha moments”. It goes more or less like this after approaching and discussing with colleagues:

“Recently I have been working on a difficult case/ticket. Today I come here to battle against that case with you.” We discussed every aspect of this case. Then suddenly I understood where the key to this problem lay. The next day I came back to my colleagues again and said to them, without even saying hello, “Thank you. I’ve completely solved the problem and I can close the ticket”

sh..sh..shh..Dont say it!

Now, keeping the vast proportions between Einstein-like problems and my banal IT duties, I know I will find more “Aha moments” with the whole blogging experience.

4. The Low Price of Your Ego

The idea of learning in public always sounded attractive to me, but still, for some reason, I never managed to try it. Then, I heard this:

“You can learn so much on the internet for the low, low price of your ego”

silly polls

It resonated with me! It made me accept that I never tried learning in public before because of my ego and fear of embarrassment.

  1. “… just let people criticize your work; it’s fine, because it was done by you, before you knew what you know today”

  2. “…once you’ve gotten something wrong in public, it’s just so embarrassing that you just remember it in a much clearer fashion.”

And with that being said, I expect to improve and improve by doing what I am doing.

5. Polluted Profiles and Feeds

Based on my experience, Linkedin rules when finding IT jobs, or at least to get in touch with recruiters. It is the best.

Now, “the best” and “perfect” are different concepts. Where am I going with this?

1. The match-all Resume

We prepare a match-all resume for three different audiences:

  • Linkedin’s algorithm.
  • Recruiters
  • Technical/Managerial Intervierwers

That resume will conflict with what one of these parties is expecting. It is just natural for this to happen.

2. Polluted Profiles and Feeds.

Using a social network-like platform (Linkedin is just an examples) for work-related things does not make it exempt from all the problems that any other social network brings. As a matter of fact, in the pursuit of higher visibility to get more chances of getting a job, some of those problems are even horribly amplified.

How is it connected to blogging?

At the risk of anyone not going beyond my “match-all resume”, I am opting to focus my efforts on this blog to grant myself the freedom of using my own casual speech-like, more creative (damm I hope It is!) and “bs free” style.

6. Fun

It is fun!!! I just started and I have enjoyed each part of if:

  • Defining what to post about.
  • Writing
  • Buying and configuring the domain name.
  • Defining the hosting.
  • etc

And that is it ! Hope you enjoy my content.
